Here’s something pretty scary to consider. Around 65% of burglars break in through your door key cylinder or latch! And considering an average cylinder lock or latch can be broken in 13 seconds, shouldn’t you be thinking of upgrading?
Lock Snapping or Lock Bumping is the latest method used by burglars to gain access to your property as it is quick and easy and needs no special tools. If you have a UPVC or composite door then the Euro cylinder that locks the door has a weakness that allows it to be easily broken with little or no skills. These locks are also sometimes fitted to timber doors.
The whole process takes less than 15 seconds and makes very little noise. Once this has been done the burglar simply unlocks the door and gains entry. It does not matter how many hooks, bolts etc. are on your door once the thief snaps the lock they are rendered useless.
Garda in Dublin have released figures showing that lock snapping / lock bumping is by far the most common method used by burglars.
